Cold Brew Coffee

Ingredients:

  • Coarsely ground dark French roast coffee (1 cup, approximately 100 grams)
  • Cold, filtered water (4 cups, approximately 1 liter)

Equipment:

  • A large jar or pitcher with a lid
  • A fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth
  • A large bowl
  • A funnel (optional)
  • A storage container (like a mason jar)

Instructions:

  1. Combine Coffee and Water:

    • Add the coarsely ground coffee to the jar or pitcher.
    • Pour the cold, filtered water over the coffee grounds, ensuring all grounds are fully saturated.
  2. Stir:

    • Stir the mixture gently to ensure all the coffee grounds are fully immersed in water.
  3. Steep:

    • Cover the jar or pitcher with a lid.
    • Let the coffee steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours. The longer the steeping time, the stronger the coffee will be.
  4. Strain:

    • After steeping, place the fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth over the large bowl.
    • Slowly pour the coffee mixture through the sieve to strain out the coffee grounds. You may need to do this in batches if your sieve is small.
  5. Store:

    • Transfer the strained cold brew coffee into a storage container using a funnel if needed.
    • Seal the container and store it in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
  6. Serve:

    • To serve, dilute the cold brew concentrate with water, milk, or a milk alternative at a 1:1 ratio (or adjust to taste).
    • Serve over ice for a refreshing cold brew coffee.

Tips:

  • Adjust the coffee-to-water ratio if you prefer a stronger or milder cold brew.
  • Experiment with different steeping times to find the perfect balance for your taste.
  • Enjoy your cold brew with flavored syrups, sweeteners, or a splash of cream for added richness.

This method will help you create a satisfying and flavorful cold brew coffee every time using your unique blend.

French Press Cold Brew Coffee Method

Ingredients:

  • Coarsely ground dark French roast coffee (1 cup, approximately 100 grams)
  • Cold, filtered water (4 cups, approximately 1 liter)

Equipment:

  • French press
  • A fine mesh sieve or additional cheesecloth (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Add Coffee Grounds:

    • Place the coarsely ground coffee into the French press.
  2. Add Water:

    • Pour the cold, filtered water over the coffee grounds in the French press.
    • Stir gently to ensure all the grounds are fully saturated.
  3. Steep:

    • Place the lid on the French press without pressing down the plunger.
    • Let the coffee steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours.
  4. Press:

    • After steeping, slowly press down the plunger to separate the coffee grounds from the liquid.
  5. Strain (Optional):

    • For a cleaner brew, you can pour the cold brew through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into another container to catch any fine sediment that may have passed through the French press filter.
  6. Store:

    • Transfer the cold brew coffee into a storage container and seal it.
    • Store it in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
  7. Serve:

    • To serve, dilute the cold brew concentrate with water, milk, or a milk alternative at a 1:1 ratio (or adjust to taste).
    • Serve over ice for a refreshing cold brew coffee.

Tips:

  • Ensure you use a coarse grind to prevent the coffee from becoming too bitter and to make pressing easier.
  • Adjust the coffee-to-water ratio if you prefer a stronger or milder cold brew.
  • Experiment with different steeping times to find the perfect balance for your taste.

Using a French press for cold brew coffee is not only effective but also easy to clean, making it a great option for home brewing.
